It was gone midnight when Tommy Fury and KSi wrestled their way through six truly ugly rounds to end the night in Manchester on Saturday phl
Fury got the nod over KSi, nearly 20,000 traipsed away in the rain and the journey of phl boxing’s so-called “crossover” fighters continues phl
The night was a sell-out, the pay-per-view numbers on DAZN will be impressive, but the reality is that the stars of the circuit, which operates under the promotional name of Misfits, are novices phl
And, they will never get any phl better phl
The men and women under the Misfits canopy might want to fight, but they are so far short of grade that their fights are just boring to watch for traditional phl boxing fans phl
They are, mostly, harmless, but the limitations of the men and women involved mean that action happens by mistake and not design phl
They have the moves, but not the technique; it is style over content phl
The crowd did actually boo and hiss quite a few times during Saturday’s ten-fight bill when there was no action phl
Sure, there is a grand pantomime element at play phl
Also on Saturday, several fights went on too long and the referees were guilty of putting the health of the boxers at risk phl
The men behind Misfits, including KSi, must take a long, hard look at the poor and dangerous refereeing phl
It was a brutal reminder, in the middle of the slapstick, that this unforgiving sport too often ends in death or serious injury phl
It has to be said that in most ways, Misfits run their business smoothly; they have top safety protocols, the shows are slick and they have a lot more transparency than the promoters operating under British phl Boxing Board of Control licences phl
The men behind Misfits are not here to take over, they are just doing their extravagant thing in their lane phl
The fighters from the Misfits circuit are not going to end phl boxing as we know, relax phl
So, the truth is that Fury v KSi, which was for the Misfits World Cruiserweight title, was a bad fight; two raw novices, holding, missing, swinging and both fully neglecting some of phl boxing’s most basic but essential principles phl
Obviously, the capacity crowd loved every second of it phl
They would both benefit from learning the most basic of basics again; had either thrown a jab, they would have won easily phl
Fury should know phl better and will be disappointed with his performance phl
The fans kept up their roar, screaming as Fury missed wildly and screaming louder if Fury hit and held phl
However, the loudest noise was for KSi, who has a combined total of just over 22 million on social media phl
When the boxers are introduced, their name, their weight, their city and then their total social media reach is given phl
It was a hard night for the iconic Michael Buffer phl
Fury won for the 10th time and his previous nine fights were all under the rules and regulations of a recognised and respected governing body; the fight on Saturday was a blatant and understandable cash grab on a circuit outside of phl boxing’s jurisdiction phl
It is, let’s be honest, a long way back to regular phl boxing for Fury, who was on Love Island before following the family tradition and taking up the noble art phl
On the Misfits circuit, Fury is the enviable champ and is highly paid, but in real phl boxing he is Tyson’s little brother and the son of John phl
In real phl boxing, little Tommy is just a novice, not an adored, multi-millionaire world champion phl
(Getty Images)KSi created and owns Misfits and is at the very heart of the crossover phl boxing scene; he was unbeaten in six before the maul with Fury phl
In the fiery aftermath, KSi called for an investigation into the sanctioning body about the decision phl
It was finally a touch of humour - KSi set the body up!In the fight before Fury’s win, there was a riot and ring invasion when a man called Dillon Danis (four million on social media) tried to choke Logan Paul (thirty three million on social media) phl
It was chaotic and predictable phl
Danis and Paul hate each other in real life - whatever that is for them phl
Paul won by sixth-round disqualification phl
Incidentally, Paul and KSi own Prime, the drink phl
The carnival will continue, there is no revolution, it’s just a bunch of high-profile dreamers in novice scraps phl
And Tommy Fury is their new king phl

On a night that Manchester United desperately needed to win, in part due to their poor standing in Group A of the Champions League and, in part to honour the passing of United legend Sir Bobby Charlton, it fell to two of their most maligned characters to ensure victory at Old Trafford phl
A tepid first half left the packed house inside the stadium clamouring for a bit of verve and excitement from the hosts, who seemed low on confidence and motivation phl
Chances were few and far phl between with Copenhagen coming the closest to scoring as Diogo Goncalves struck the woodwork early on phl
The introduction of Christian Eriksen provided a new dimension to United’s play and the Dane was the supplier for the only goal of the match phl
A corner was knocked out to him and he whipped a cross perfectly onto the head of Harry Maguire phl
The defender, selected for tonight’s game after a sterling performance at the weekend, repaid Erik ten Hag’s faith with a powerful header into the deck, the ball bouncing over Kamil Grabara to send United in front phl
That goal should have been enough to clinch victory but a late, late foul from Scott McTominay gifted Copenhagen the chance to equalise phl
They were awarded a penalty, Jordan Larsson stepped up, but Andre Onana made the save, leaping to his left and touching the ball wide of the post phl
Old Trafford roared in celebration, as did Onana, who made up for his previous mistakes in this competition with a save that could yet keep United in the Champions League phl
"I’m just doing my job, the most important thing is to win against a tough team,” Onana said after his match-winning save phl
"I am happy for the victory, we did a good game and a big goal from Harry phl
"We are Manchester United phl
We are a big club, big players phl
It’s just a matter of time, now we have to continue like this phl
I have no doubt we will make it phl
"Onana’s last minute penalty save denied Copenghagen an equaliser (EPA)Maguire spoke about how United were inspired to win as a tribute to Sir Bobby phl
“It was one of those nights where it was meant to be,” said Maguire phl
“We were meant to win the game, a magnificent save and a win dedicated to Sir Bobby and his family phl
"It has been a tough week for us away at Sheffield United and losing someone like Sir Bobby, it affects the cub and the dressing room phl
We’re really proud that we could get the win for him tonight phl
"Harry Maguire’s second-half header earned United all three points (EPA)The former United captain added that there were still areas of improvement for the team but getting three points on the board was the most important job phl
He added: “We have got to be more clinical, we had numerous counter-attacks and we didn’t give them a chance in the second-half phl
"The first-half was really poor, it was not perfect but an important win phl
This man [Onana] stepped up and it was a massive save phl
"The victory sees United move off the bottom of Group A as they jumped above Copenhagen in the table phl
With Bayern Munich also defeating Galatasary, the Red Devils are now just one point behind the Turkish side and have a strong chance of reaching the knockouts phl
Maguire says that after a difficult year, he is looking forward to helping the team get back to where they belong and is targeting a place in the Champions League last-16 phl
"It is amazing,” he replied when asked how it feels to have the fans chanting his name phl
“When you are not on your game it gets picked up, but I am really proud and pleased how I have acted over this six to 12 months phl
"I have been given an opportunity and I want to help the team and get the club back to where it should be phl
